Local Illini Playwright: Becoming Calvin
Alumna Ann Timmons will be featuring her play on Capitol Hill in September
Becoming Calvin is a tantalizing and provocative new play of political intrigue, religious rebellion, and the unlikely leader — John Calvin — who shaped the modern world. The events of Calvin's life, which catapulted him from the ivy towers of Renaissance France to the highest pulpit in Geneva, remain surprisingly relevant: modern audiences will recognize the human drama behind shifting allegiances and challenges to authority. Tantalizing and thought-provoking, Becoming Calvin explores the lives of characters living at the crossroads of history, caught up in the complex relationships between royalty and Rome, leaders of the Church and leaders of state.
